What is a training stimulus and how do I create it?

What is a stimulus and how do I create one in my training programme?

What is a stimulus and why it is important?

A stimulus can be defined as a action that accelerates a physiological response. The aim of training is to create a stimulus within the body to give you the adaption your looking for.

Why is creating a stimulus important?

The stimulus will great a adaptation within the body. The adaptation is what will take you one step close to reaching your goals. If you do not continue to great a new stimulus every 4 - 6 weeks you will plateau and not progress.

How can I great a new stimulus

There are many ways to create a new stimulus. Before I give you any ideas it's important to note that if you aren't keeping a record of your current workout routine it will be very hard to know what the correct next step is. Keep a record of your weights, rest periods, times, intensity ECT.

Here are sometimes on how to create a new stimulus;

  • Changing the exercise,
  • Reduce or increase the rest period,
  • Reduce or increase the weight,
  • Change the tempo,
  • Changing your running route,
  • Change the gradient
  • Super Sets, Eccentric training,  pre and post fatigue,
  • Try a new training split.
Try to create a new stimulus ever 4-6 weeks. For more ideas get in touch,
